BCPS 18th ANNUAL CUSTOMER SURVEY

The Broward County Public School’s Eighteenth Annual Customer Survey of our District's students, instructional staff/teachers, and parents will be underway throughout all elementary, middle, and high schools. This year's surveys will be administered online to all students in grades 3 through 12, to all full-time instructional staff/teachers, and to all parents/guardians. Surveys will be administered online beginning February 6, 2012 through April 6, 2012. All surveys will be available online through Virtual Counselor (https://www.browardschools.com/virtualcounselor) for all students, instructional staff/teachers, and parents who wish to participate.
It is important for students, instructional staff/teachers, and parents/guardians to participate to ensure that valid conclusions can be drawn from the results. We appreciate the advice students, instructional staff/teachers, and parents/guardians give us each year and encourage everyone to take a few minutes to participate.
Following administration, student, teacher, and parent data will be analyzed and summarized in individual school reports. Results for individual school reports will be released by June 8, 2012. A customer survey brief highlighting areas of concern, providing results for the District and for elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and centers will be released July 6, 2012.
Parents, below you will find the Customer Survey Contact Notification Letters and the Student Survey Notification/opt-out Letters in English, Spanish, Haitian/Creole, and Portuguese. The Notification/opt-out letter informs you that your child will be taking the Student Survey, that the survey is confidential, and provides you with the option of excluding your child from taking the survey. You must return the bottom part of the Opt-out Letter if you do not want your child to participate in the survey at school.

A VISIT WITH CHRISTOPHER PAUL CURTIS

On January 18, 2012, several students joined Mrs. Cannady, Ms. Saunig and Mrs. Antolin at Barnes and Noble for an evening with award-winning author, Christopher Paul Curtis. Andres got called up after correctly answering, “What is segregation?” While with the author, who wrote The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963, this student discussed learning about The Civil Rights Movement in Mrs. Cannady’s Language Arts class. Students listened to the author read excerpts from his new book, The Mighty Miss Malone, and got the opportunity to have him sign copies of his other work. Please take a minute to view the pictures from this event in the slide show above.

ADOPT-A-UNIT PROGRAM
Silver Trail Middle School through the S.T.M.S. Platinum Mustang Chapter of N.J.H.S. is participating in the Adopt-A-Unit Program. We have adopted the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing. This unit is a joint organization between the Air Force, Navy, Marines and many more. Their mission is to train, advise, and assist Afghan National Security Forces in a very unstable part of the world. During the week of December 5th we collected items, made cards, and shipped boxes to our unit. Together we collected over 4,000 items. Mrs. Langford and Mrs. Tchir (N.J.H.S. Advisors) would like to thank all members of the Silver Trail Family who donated items. Your thoughtfulness was truly appreciated.

New Website Initiative
Welcome to the 2011 -2012 school year and our new website! Broward Schools has developed a new initiative which provides all schools in Broward County with great websites - at no out-of-pocket cost to the school. One of the goals of this initiative is to enhance communication between us. Our school is so proud to be able to participate.
In a few months, our website will have advertising and this advertising will (1) fund the cost of the website and (2) a percentage of profits generated will be shared back to our school. Therefore, please use our website and check back here often as your participation will help us generate income!
