BCPS Honors Everglades High School Senior as 2026 JROTC Cadet of the Year

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) congratulates Everglades High School senior Steve Joseph on being named the District’s 2026 JROTC Cadet of the Year. Joseph received the prestigious award during a ceremony on April 23, 2026.

He was selected from a distinguished group of 30 Cadet of the Year nominees representing JROTC programs across BCPS.

In recognition of his achievement, Joseph received a ceremonial eagle trophy and a $2,000 scholarship. Following his selection, Joseph was also promoted to the rank of Cadet Colonel, the highest rank attainable within BCPS JROTC programs. He maintains an outstanding weighted GPA of 4.87 and plans to continue his academic and leadership journey at the University of South Florida.

“Cadet Joseph represents the very best of Broward County Public Schools JROTC,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “His dedication to leadership, academic excellence and service to others reflects the core values we strive to instill in every student, and we are proud to recognize his outstanding achievements.”

Reflecting on his experience, Joseph credited the JROTC program with shaping his success. “JROTC has given me a support system and a shoulder I can always lean on,” Joseph said. “What I’ve gained from this program is greater than what any other classroom has offered me.”

The annual Cadet of the Year ceremony highlights the exceptional leadership, academic excellence and community service demonstrated by Broward County Public Schools JROTC cadets.
